A Tiny Computer Icon, a Cloud, and One Potato: My ChatGPT Work Sync Adventure
A late-night argument with ChatGPT about local versus cloud Work turned into a lesson in product UX—with N’Sync, AC/DC, Kangaroo Jack, and one very quiet potato.
JT: CGP, why can I see this conversation on my Mac but not on my iPhone?
CGP: Because this one is Work running locally on your computer.
JT: I chose that?
CGP: Well…
JT: CGP.
CGP: There’s a little computer icon.
JT: A little computer icon?
And thus began an investigation that absolutely nobody asked for.
We tested Chat. We tested Work in the cloud. We stared at the tiny computer icon like it had just confessed to breaking up N’Sync. Eventually, the mystery was solved: cloud conversations followed us across devices; the local one stayed home, perhaps listening to AC/DC and guarding a single potato.
The technology is remarkable. The discovery experience? Let’s call it an encore that needed a better spotlight.
Good UX doesn’t become less important because the technology behind it is extraordinary. It becomes more important.
